Cataract is clouding of normal clear crystalline lens of the eye. It leads to decrease or loss of functional vision .It can be compared to a window that is frosted. The amount and pattern of cloudiness can vary within the lens. It must be removed surgically which can be removed at any age. We no longer have to wait until the cataract "ripens" or until you lose your sight before surgery can be performed. In fact, the placement of an intraocular lens (IOL) implant to restore vision is best done in an eye when the cataract interferes with your daily activities or causes a decrease in vision. The technique employed in removal of cataract at Saluja Eye Care Center, is customized; and depends upon individual eye, state of maturity of cataract, and other associated eye problems (Corneal, Uveal, etc).    It can be removed through

  1. Manual (Conventional Extra Capsular Cataract Removal (ECCE), Small Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS).
  2. Machine Assisted (Phacoemulsification)[Microincision, Microcoaxial, Conventional]

It is a cataract surgery where the cataract lens is emulsified (dissolved) inside our eye using ultrasound energy and aspirated (sucked) through a very small wound (just large enough to allow a needle to pass). The surgery requires minimal risk and exposure of anesthesia. Cataracts are treated with a surgical procedure that has become fairly common procedure in India.

IOL (Intra Ocular Lens) means an artificial lens that is placed in the position of natural lens inside the eyes for good distance vision without spectacles. Multifocal IOL gives better distant as well as near vision without glasses.

Saluja Eye Care center has skilled staff for performing suture less cataract surgeries. Our services include:

  1. Phacoemulsification with IOL implantation(for all regular, subluxated, suprahard, mature cataract ,non dilating pupil)
  2. Phacoemulsification + IOL + trabeculectomy (For Coexisting Glaucoma)
  3. Small incision cataract surgery (SICS) + IOL
  4. SICS + IOL + trabeculectomy (For Coexisting Glaucoma )
  5. Secondary IOL Implantation
  6. All types of IOL Implantation [PMMA IOL,FOLDABLE IOL Silicon ,Acrylic (Hydrophilic, Hydrophobic),Aspheric IOL ,Blue filter IOL ,Multifocal IOL ,Accommodative IOL,Surface Modified Lenses for Uveitis patients]

We are well equipped with most modern State of the Art Equipments

1.       Millennium Custom Controlled Cold Phaco unit for advanced cataract surgeries

2.       Topcon OMS Microscope for Micro surgeries

3.       A-Scan Echorule II with Prager shell for calculation of Intraocular power

4.       Topcon automated Keratorefractometer for Keratometric calculations

To achieve ideal outcome we need to pay attention to many details prior to surgery.

     1. Consultation and Assessment :

·         Vision and Visual Potential Evaluation

·         Contrast Sensitivity Evaluation

·         Anterior Segment Evaluation and Slit Lamp Biomicroscopy

·         Duct Evaluation

·         Intra Ocular pressure Evaluation

·         Posterior  Segment Evaluation

·         Other Relevant Examinations

2. Biometry (Precise measurements of the axial length of your eye and the corneal curvature)

3. Choice of Intraocular Lens Implant (IOL)

4. Surgical planning: Depends upon the individual eyes and the choice and the type of surgery needs to be individualized / Custom made.
